super eggplant:
So, Super Eggplant had the Music Meme and the Movie Meme on her blog so i thought it would be fun to do it on mine (though this is not knitting-related!)
THE MUSIC MEME
1. Total amount of music files on your computer: My iPod holds 40gig so I think I'm up to 30 or so on my computer? but I haven't loaded even half of my CDs into it! argh. I need that 10,000 digital CD stereo that Jai gave to Britton on the last Queer Eye.
2. The last CD you bought was: Jem "Finally Woken" I saw them perform on Ellen and she raved about them. (bought it on iTunes- most of my CDs are from iTunes now)
3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message? The two Indian songs on the Vanity Fair Soundtrack. I was fantasizing about bellydancing. hahaha
4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you:
- "In Your Eyes" Peter Gabriel (okay ANYTHING by PG) It's been "my" song since I was a teenager. I think I really loved it and then I saw "Say Anything" and it meant even more to me. This song makes me very nostaglic.
- "Just Like Heaven" Cure- I want to cry everytime i hear this song. it brings up a lot of memories of past loves.
- "let's Go Crazy" Prince & "Star" & "Yahoo" by Erasure- These three songs make me wanna dance no matter what mood I'm in.
- "Sand in my shoes" and all of her first CD- Dido I just love this song and how wistful it is. Of course the first CD is incredible.
- "Take to the Sky" Tori Amos and EVERYTHING by her. Tori is my all-time favorite artist. She is brilliant and unique. I think this song is one of my favorites because it was a B-side and then it made it onto the Pink CD.
Okay that's more than five songs, but I couldn't limit myself!
THE MOVIE MEME
1. The Last movie you went to see in a theater: Phantom of the Opera!
2. The last movie you watched at home: One Day Without a Mexican. It's a mocumentory about what California would do if one day all mexicans disappeared. It could have been done a little more seriously, but this is a great conversation-starter.
3. How many movies do you own? hm.. maybe 30? I have a bunch of old VHS tapes and maybe about 10 DVDs
4. What was the last movie you bought? *blush* Dirty Dancing Havana Nights. I love the dance scenes. sigh.
5. Got Netflix (or a similar service?) Netflix!!!!! I love it. I don't go to movies in the theater anymore.
What are the next three movies in your queue? hm I have to look that up... okay "Before Sunset", "School of Rock", and "Wimbleton" I saw Wimbleton in the theater and it was lovely. Who knew Paul Bentley was such a cutie?
6. List five movies you adore/mean a lot to you:
- Desperado w/Antonio Banderas & Salma Hayek. If you know me well at all, you'll know exactly why I love this movie. It is my all-time favorite.
- Cyrano de Bergerac w/ Jose Ferrer. This is the black and white version from like the 30s? It is a magnificent performance by Jose and lovely and romantic.
- Amelie w/ Audrey Tatou & City of the Lost Children (both by Jean-Pierre Jeanet) City of the lost children was incredibly weird and full of archetypes. Amelie was lovely and weird and a superb love story.
- But I'm a Cheerleader w/RuPaul. This is a hilarious indie film about a girl who is sent to rehabilitation because her friends and family think she's a lesbian. It's full of tongue-in-cheek gay references and finally she finds her true home with a campy gay couple whose home is decorated with rainbows. nuff said.
- Pride and Prejudice w/ Colin Firth (the miniseries). this is my favorite DVD. I watch the entire mini-series at least once every other month. It is lovely.
movies that came close to making my list:
- The Man From Snowy River
- Shall We Dance & Top Hat (fred astaire/ginger rogers)
- The Sound of Music
- 7 Brides for 7 Brothers
- Happy Texas (Jeremy Northren, Steve Zahn)
- The Perez Family (marisa tomei, angelica houston)
- The Hours
- Whalerider
- Chocolat
- Emma (Gwyneth Paltrow)
7. Name your guilty pleasure movie (or genre): I love sappy romantic comedies and silly sci-fi movies. But my biggest guilty pleasure is Buffy the Vampire Slayer- the original movie with Kristy Swanson, Paul Reubens, Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, Hilary Swank & David Arquette. (did you know there were so many stars in that movie?) When I saw this movie, I identified with it. I've always wanted to kick ass!
